The inaugural Bembridge Harbour Charity Ball was held on Saturday 21st September at Brading Haven Yacht Club. Guests were welcomed into a stunningly decorated clubhouse with a glass of bubbles and chocolate covered strawberries, followed by a sumptious 5-course dinner finished off with cheeses donated by the Isle of Wight Cheese Company and Briddlesford Farm and ships' decanters full of port.
The evening was all the more special for having with us Sophie's parents, Gemma and Aaron. Aaron gave a moving account of his family's journey and described the continuing work of the charity and its support of the Mountbatten Hospice in fundraising for the refurbishment of a building which will include bespoke facilities for children and their families (a first on the Island).
Those present generously supported an Auction and Raffle, raising £1,655 of the total of over £2,100 raised on the night - we are hugely grateful to the companies and individuals who so kindly donated prizes, a list of which can be found below.
Musical entertainment throughout the evening came courtesy of duo Short and Sweet, and JC and Angelina's Dance Preachers - many thanks to them, and to the BHYC catering and bar teams who did themselves, and us, proud. Huge thanks to MC Gordon Wight who put the whole event together and to his small but perfectly formed army of helpers - a stupendous job well done!
