Great Bembridge Paper Boat Race

Great Bembridge Paper Boat Race

Saturday 24th July at Brading Haven Yacht Club

Calling all budding boat builders, young and not so young - this is your chance for nautical glory!!  The Great Bembridge Paper Boat Race will be held at Brading Haven Yacht Club.  The first start is at 1200 but please arrive early, in plenty of time for Registration and Boat Checks.

The Water Taxi will be running a drop off/collection at the BHYC pontoon, or you can walk across the Duver and over the Causeway (Old Mill Wall), through Bembridge Marina Car Park to Embankment Road and the Club - about 15 to 20 minutes.

A BBQ will be available on the BHYC Terrace from 1.30pm.

There are RULES!  These are detailed in the Notice of Race below (scroll down), and you'll need to complete an online Entry Form on the BHYC website before 9pm on Friday 23rd July. Entry fees go to the nominated event charity, the Sophie Rolf Trust.

Please note a parent or guardian must accompany any entrant under 15 years of age when launching and recovering their craft from pontoons and that lifejackets are mandatory for anybody going onto the Club pontoons.

All entrants, guardians and their guests using the Brading Haven Yacht Club premises and facilities for this event do so entirely at their own risk. Brading Haven Yacht Club does not accept liability for any damage to, or loss of, property belonging to entrants, guardians and their guests.

It would be helpful if boat sails could be marked with a coloured symbol to aid identification by the owners and the judges. We suggest this could be a cross, a triangle, a circle or similar or perhaps the entrants initials preferably in more than one colour.

Just to remind you the Notice of Race states that boat hulls must be made of paper or cardboard only and the hull length must not exceed 18 inches (46 Cm.): this will be checked by the scrutineers on the day. Other materials may be used for spars, sails rigging etc., ballast may be added. Engines of any sort are forbidden, the only allowed means of propulsion being wind. Radio controlled vessels are also forbidden.

Full details online go to Open Events www.bhyc.org.uk
